Jen Dexter: Red Sneakers

Deckhand Jen Dexter bought these shoes just before embarking on the 38th Voyage. She wore them every day for all her jobs on board the Morgan, including work aloft in the ship’s rigging. After the voyage ended, she donated her shoes to Mystic Seaport’s collections. The work of one summer’s voyage turned the shoes from their original “fire extinguisher red” to a much darker, tar-stained color.
