Log: August 5, 1898.

The CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing on her 23^rd voyage off the coast of Japan.  The log entry for this day states, “Raised Large Sperms Whale Begin with Strong breeze from N.E. Bk heading S.S.E. on Port tacks  due the time rain very hard due the day we boilling oil  latter part thicks fog  at 6 P.M. clear up Raised a large Sperms Whale goin very fast did not louered to late begin to get darks so end.”
