Log: May 25, 1890

The CHARLES W. MORGAN, on her 16^th voyage, was sailing off the coast of Japan under command of J.S. Layton.  Log states, “At day light Saw a Wright Whale  lowered for him and Chased him until 11 ½ A M without success. Came aboard . At Six P.M. lowered again and just as the Sun was going down the Starboard Boat went on and darted and both guns went off but did not get fast the whale being under water. at the time, the two bomb lances went in to the whale and exploded.”
