The CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing on her 23rd voyage under Captain Thomas Scullun about 1,500 miles west of California in the North Pacific. The log entry for this day states, “Come in with strong S.E. wind Bk lay to cutting 4 whales latter part we stard to boilled blowing gale of wind at night blowing very strong we lay under low main top sail so end this day.”
