Log: June 3, 1842.

June 3, 1842: CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing in the Central Pacific near South America on her maiden voyage under Captain Thomas Norton.  The log entry for this day states, “Begins with fine weather wind SE. Middle, about one oclock saw a breach at 1/2 past 2 oclock, Lowered Struck to the B boat the waist Boat struck the same Whale. the Starboard Boat Struck and drawed. the Larboard Boat struck and cut his Line a lancing the whale. Last part about 10 oclock took the B Boats Whale to the ship. allmost buffed out. Heading to the E. This whales teeth weighed 85 lb.”
