Log: May 30, 1910

The CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing the Southern Atlantic on her 32nd voyage eventually making her way home to New Bedford in September of the same year.  Initially under command of Captain A. O. Gibbons, the Captain was taken ill in Durban and replaced by Capt.Charles S. Church.  The logbook for this day states, “Weather Squally. This day commenced with light variable winds. Ship under all sail steering WNW.  Men employed at odd job about deck.  One Sulphur bottom seen this AM. At 4:45PM raised land right above  W  x N ½ N.  At sun down took in light sail, steering down towards the land.  So ends this day.  Pumps, lights and look out carefully attended.  All well.”
