Log: July 6, 1890.

The CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing on her 16th voyage in the Sea of Okhotsk.  The log entry for this day states, “The first and middle parts of the day we had very light baffling Easterly breeze At 10 ½ A M Saw what we called a wright whale to windward of the mouth of American Bay. a long distance off tryed to work up to him but could not, the wind being too light. he must have been going in Shore as we lost sight of him Shortly after Noon  Made several tacks but could gain nothing to windward Gave him up. At dark ship on port tack heading S S.E.”
