Log: May 17, 1842

May 17, 1842: CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing off the coasts of South America and Mexico, 254 days into her maiden voyage which began on September 6, 1841 under Captain Thomas Adam Norton.

2^nd Mate James Osborn notes in the ship’s logbook stating, “Begins with Strong breezes from the SE. Employed breaking out between Decks. Saw a Breach kept off for it, saw nothing. Middle saw Finbacks. Last part raised a sulphor Bottom*, so ends another long Day.”
