Log: July 22, 1868.

The CHARLES W. MORGAN was sailing on her 8th voyage near Tahiti.  The log entry for this day states, “This 24 hours fine weather employed a bout various things got some off the iron work from shore & setting up the riggin Forward Captain Much better to day*”

 

*After sustaining an injury to his ankle and coming down with a fever, Captain George Athearn fortunately made a speedy recovery, something that was truly welcomed in an environment where disease and no access to modern medicine often posed great dangers.
