Log: July 1, 1868

Charles W. Morgan was sailing on her 8th voyage in the South Pacific off Magdalena (Fatu Hiva).  The log entry for this day states, “First part fresh trades heading in shore at 4 PM wash Decks at .6 took in fligib* & graft (?) top sail & wore ship off shore Middle part fresh trades at 12 oclock wore Ship in shore Latter part fresh trades at Day light Made sail steering in for the Bay at .7 wore Ship wore Ship off shore . got too Boats all ready for going a shore Dobble reef the top sails furld the Main sail fligib Cap Athearn went a shore with 2 Boats discharge **John Andrews & sent him a shore got off 2 Boat loads off cocanuts & some Broom[?] stuff & c so ends ”

**On occasion there are instances of crew members getting discharged prematurely from service for any number of reasons.
